Rewards Monday: Credit Cards Battle for Cyber Sales Share

Cyber ShoppingMajor credit card issuers are offering extra reward points, promotional websites and online comparison shopping tools in an all-out blitz to grab the biggest share of Cyber Monday sales and beyond.
And they may have reason to get excited about this online holiday shopping season, despite a growing jobless market and rising credit card delinquencies.
A report from a web analysis firm showed that online shoppers on average spent 35 percent more on Black Friday, compared to last year. Those figures adds anticipation for tomorrow, Cyber Monday, recognized in recent years as one of the top online holiday shopping days.
“We knew that our cardmembers would appreciate additional discounts and more rewards points during this holiday shopping season in particular,” said Rob Rosenblatt, general manager, Customer Loyalty, Chase Card Services.
Here’s an overview of special rewards offerings this holiday season:
American Express:
Through Cyber Monday, Nov. 30th, American Express is offering to eligible card customers “triple membership rewards points” on every purchase, up to $5,000, made on Amazon.com.
In addition, AmEx is offering a limited promotion for its Platinum Card members to earn six times the membership rewards points, and Gold and Green Card customers five times the points, when they shop at a selection of 25 popular online retailers. They include the online stores of Gap, Macy’s, Old Navy and the card giant’s own portal, bonuspointsmall.com.
In announcing the rewards promotions, AmEx cites its own new survey of 2,011 adults, in which more than half said they plan to do their holiday shopping online this year.
Chase:
The nation’s top credit card issuer is offering a holiday version of its Ultimate Rewards program.
Through the Ultimate Rewards Mall, accessible to Chase members at ultimaterewards.com, most cardmembers receive up to 10 bonus points every day from leading retailers and more during the holiday season, including free shipping, from select retailers. They can also access tools that make it easy to evaluate products and find the best deals.
Chase give these examples: an Ultimate Rewards member who spends $1,000 via the Ultimate Rewards Mall can earn up to 10,000 bonus points, good for $100 in cash back. Ultimate Rewards points can also be used for free travel, over 3 million merchandise items, and gift cards from over 60 retailers.
Discover:
ItPaystoDiscover.com is a new website that Discover hopes will attract more cardmembers to see how to best maximize their “cashback bonus rewards.”
The site features “exclusive, limited-time deals” and let’s cardmembers see how fellow iscover users in their area and around the country are redeeming their rewards.
