American Express, TakePart Launch during Oscar Telecast

TakePart.comIf you watched the commercials during the Academy Awards, you may have caught the launch of “Members Project” by American Express and TakePart.com, the online philanthropic channel for those interested in entertainment with a social conscience.
The credit card giant has formed a partnership with Participant Media, the creator of TakePart.com that showcases innovative documentaries, such as the Academy Award-winning An Inconvenient Truth and the Oscar-nominated Food, Inc., “to drive citizen engagement and social action.”
The Members Project at http://TakePart.com/MembersProject encourages anyone — whether an American Express card member or not — to find a worthy cause. And then take this passion to higher levels, such as volunteering for a local organization, making a donation or voting for a charity to receive additional funding from American Express.  Members Project will provide tools and resources to motivate and help people find ways of contributing to their cause.
American Express premiered two television spots during the 82nd Academy Awards broadcast. They featured two philanthropists – card member Geoffrey Canada, a social activist, educator and president and CEO of the Harlem Children’s Zone; and merchant member Yvon Chouinard, an environmentalist, outdoor industry entrepreneur and founder/owner of Patagonia.
Canada’s passion is revitalization of the Harlem community to better the lives of neighborhood children, while Chouinard’s cause is preserving the environment.
“American Express and TakePart have a vision and are deeply committed to empowering people to successfully do something bigger,” said Nancy Smith, Vice President, Global Media, Content and Community, American Express.
After registering for Members Project, participants can vote once a week for a charity they believe deserves financial support. Every three months, five charities will be chosen to each receive $200,000 in funding from American Express.
