Microsoft Tops ‘Social’ Index; Big on LinkedIn, Twitter

MicrosoftMicrosoft is the most social media conscious corporation – at least measured by their employees’ activities on the top networking sites, according to a new analysis.
A social media index created by NetProspex, the marketing database provider, puts the software giant at the top, followed by eBay, Amazon, Walt Disney and Google.
The index measures social media activity across 9 major sites: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, MySpace, Friendster, Flickr, LiveJournal, hi5 and Flixster.
“The score is based on the average number of friends or connections across major social networks (friendliness) and the average number of tweets, # following and # of followers per employee (Twitter score),” NetProspex writes on its website.
Microsoft scored a 306, well above eBay in second place with a 208 score. Microsoft also ranks first among “The Twitter 20,” which measures employee activity on the micro-blogging site.
NetProspex found that LinkedIn was the most popular site among the employees, with 43 percent membership rate. Facebook was second with an 11 percent membership.
NetProspex used more than 100,000 contacts from the nation’s largest companies and analyzed their social media activity based on data provided by Rapleaf.
