iPhone vs. iPad: Tablet Sells 1 Million Units Much Faster

Apple's iPadApple reached 1 million units sold of its iPad tablet computer on Friday, less than half the time it took for the iPhone to reach the same milestone.
The evolutionary touch-screen iPad, thinner and lighter than netbooks, went on sale April 3.
iPad users have also downloaded more than 12 million apps from the App Store and more than 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore, Apple said today.
“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, in a statement. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
Developers have created more than 5,000 new apps for the iPad, Apple also said.
Friday also marked the debut of the iPad 3G with remote cellular Internet connectivity on AT&T’s network. The 3G model starts at $629, while the Wi-Fi-only iPad starts at $499.
