American Express Partners with Target Stores on Prepaid Cards

With Black Friday around the corner, American Express is partnering with Target to provide a reloadable prepaid card available at more than 1,000 of the retailer’s U.S. stores.
The “American Express for Target Card” can be loaded at a Target store register and can be reloaded in-store, online or by phone.
There are no fees for monthly usage, balance inquiries, alerts or card replacement. However, there is a $3 initial load fee and each subsequent in-store reload at participating Target stores.
There is also a $3 per ATM withdrawal, with the first ATM withdrawal per month free — a separate ATM fee by the ATM owner may apply.
The card does provide protections and benefits that include Roadside Assistance, card member discounts at select merchants, and Purchase Protection, which can protect against accidental damage or theft of eligible items.
The Target card is the second launch announced this month by America Express involving prepaid card services.
AmEx has also introduced the University of North Florida’s (UNF) Osprey 1Card, its first prepaid college campus ID Card.
All current and new UNF students can obtain an Osprey 1Card with American Express prepaid functionality embedded in the card. This allows students to use their ID Card for on-campus dining purchases and off-campus purchases at locations globally that accept American Express Cards.
